News | Our #UmojaFriday

Last year we chose to buck the trend and support our own version of Black Friday. We will be following the path set by companies such as REI and will #optoutside. However, we cant sit back and do nothing. We want to get involved to support the start of the Christmas period in a different way. This is our chance to show how we want to do business and 20% of any purchases on this day will be donated on your behalf to the World Bicycle Relief - a charity that supports and empowers people for change.

The context

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States and the fourth Thursday of November. Since 1952, it has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the U.S., and most major retailers open very early (and more recently during overnight hours) and offer promotional sales. Black Friday is not an official holiday.

Our approach

At KitBrix we want to make a difference with what we do and how we do it. Do we need the sales? Yes, like any retailer we are dependent on revenue BUT we want to be more than this. The start of the Christmas season should reflect the true values of this time of year, whatever the religion.

During these few months we have an opportunity to raise awareness of causes that can actually help other people rather than focus on commercial 'Black Friday' gains. Last year we supported the Help for Homeless Veterans here in the UK and 20% of all our profits went to house 1 ex-military homeless person.

This year we will supporting the efforts and raising awareness of World Bicycle Relief. A percentage of sales will go to this cause plus we will be getting involved on the day to to raise awareness. More to follow on social as we approach #UmojaFriday

World Bicycle Relief

World Bicycle Relief mobilises people through The Power of Bicycles. They are committed to helping people conquer the challenge of distance, achieve independence and thrive.

For many people in rural regions of developing countries, poverty is a daily reality. In areas where walking is the only mode of transport, a Buffalo Bicycle offers the real and immediate benefit of reliable access to essential goods and services. Powered by the remarkable human spirit, bicycles are a catalyst to possibilities."
