KitBrix in the Antarctic with Mike Scotting
KitBrix in the Antarctic with Mike Scotting

This year my work as an Expediton Guide and Leader has taken me from Pole to Pole. I have seen Polar Bears in the Canadian Arctic and Emperor Penguins in Antarctica, all while accompanied by my KitBrix Hero Bag.

My role involves taking adventurous guests to out of the way places. The stops we make on our small Expedition Cruise Ships are almost always away from any conventional port facilities, which means we need to transfer the guests ashore in tough little inflatable boats called Zodiacs. These impregnable rubber boats are used by the military as well as us, so we know that they are as tough as!!

When I’m driving a Zodiac I may be off the ship for a few hours, so I need to take with me everything I could need in that time and be self-reliant. That means safety equipment like a GPS, a compass, a knife and multitool, as well as a pretty extensive First Aid kit. If I want to take photos, the camera needs a home too.

For comfort I’ll take a hot drink out with me, as well as an array of spare gloves and hats in case I, or my guests, start to feel the cold. All of that needs to be carried in a tough, compact and watertight bag. That’s where my KitBrix Hero bag comes in. The tough moulded base keeps it out of the water, and the double-skin fabric takes a lot of abuse as I jump in and out of boats. I wouldn’t be without my KitBrix now. It’s one of the first items on my packing list.
