My name is Yiannis, friends call me Yian and family call me Yianni or Yiannis. I am Greek Cypriot but was born in England in the city of Canterbury & I live there now. I have been married to Melanie for over 8 years now & most people call her Mel. She is my rock & best friend. I work for the NHS as a Performance Analyst & have almost worked for the NHS for 10 years now. I am also at the great age of 40 years old.
I am very much in touch with my Greek heritage and listen to Greek My favourite music is Hip Hop & RnB.
I am Head Coach of Canterbury Harriers running club. I am very proud of this, I also coach people in running & Triathlon.
I wasn’t into running etc before 2012, I was inspired by the Olympics to do something and get fit. I have always been a football fan, come on Arsenal. My favourite sport is F1 & I am a huge fan & of Ferrari, I also collect all the driver autographs.
I started running in September 2012 where I joined Canterbury Harriers with a friend. I also started to swim then, I could not swim back then & had to learn.
In 2015 I started my journey in Multisport in Aquathlon hoping I wouldn’t get injured doing two sports as I used to get injured all the time running when I first started.
In 2016 I qualified for the British Triathlon Age Group Aquathlon team and in 2019 I moved away from Aquathlon after winning the 2019 European Aquathlon Championships and defending my National Aquathlon Championships, I captained the GB Aquathlon team at the World and European Championships. I decided to get over the fear of the bike causing injuries and trained for Triathlon. I never thought I would be good at Triathlon, but I have raced at the World and European Sprint Championships, I am a British Triathlon Ambassador and currently hold the National Middle Distance championship and Super Sprint Championship titles.
I believe there is no such thing as I cant, if you work hard for it, it does pay off. But most of all its about having fun & enjoying your hobby.
